John 1:40–42
40 One of the two who heard John speak and followed Jesus was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41 He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means Christ). 42 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of John. You shall be called Cephas” (which means Peter).
Understanding the Moment
What is your first reaction when you know and understand that you have found something amazing?
I love Andrew’s reaction when he realizes that Jesus is the Messiah. He immediately goes and tells his brother, Simon. Andrew had heard about Jesus from John the Baptist and was encouraged to follow Him. Andrew had spent time learning, and when the opportunity finally came, he didn’t waste any time—he immediately followed Jesus.
The reason he was so quick to follow Jesus and bring his brother along was that he already knew who Jesus was. He understood the importance of the moment. It was his opportunity to learn directly from the Messiah. Deciding to follow Jesus was a moment that changed his life forever as he became one of the original twelve disciples. He also changed his brother’s life forever: Simon became known as Peter, the rock on which Jesus built His church.
Knowing Him Changes Everything
Do you know and understand who Jesus is?
Do you want to tell others about Him?
The more time you spend in God’s Word, the more you will know and understand Him. You will grow closer in your relationship with Him, and sharing Him with others won’t feel forced—it will just happen naturally.
