Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. – James 4:7
Â
Every day there is a battle going on for your mind. It is non-stop from the time you wake up in the morning until you go to bed.
Satan is trying to fill your head with negative thoughts, while God wants you to fill your mind with the truth of His Word. Satan wants to flood your mind with anxiety, fear, and uncertainty. God wants to anchor you in faith, courage, and assurance.
Recognizing the Enemy’s Tactics
Satan is the father of lies, and nothing is off-limits to him. He doesn’t play by our rules. He has no concern for human emotion, and he actively preys on weakness. He will use whatever he can to his advantage:
-
Temptation & Sin: He will afflict pain, tempt you, steal, and even weaponize your own past failures against you.
-
Anger & Lust: If you struggle with anger, he will replay those moments constantly. If you struggle with lust, he will repeatedly throw opportunities in your path to push you further.
-
Pride: Then there is pride—the very sin that brought Satan down. He knows how to use this one best. Pride elevates us above God in our minds, keeps us from seeking Him, and puts us in direct opposition to Him.
As John 10:10 reminds us, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.” He wants to take whatever faith you have in God and twist it into self-reliance.
Crowding Out the Lies
This battle would be overwhelming if the enemy weren’t already defeated. The point isn’t to live in fear of Satan, but to understand his tactics, recognize them, and actively resist them.
Remember James 4:7: “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
Don’t let Satan fill your mind with lies and negativity—crowd them out with the unchanging truth of God’s Word.
Have a great day in Christ,
Matt
