5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. – John 15:5
I bought Amy a dozen roses for our anniversary a few weeks ago and for some reason this batch of roses lasted longer than they usually do. We didn’t do anything special to them. We cut the bottoms off the stems and put them in a vase of water. The same thing that we do with any other flowers that we get.

Even though they lasted longer than normal, it would be impossible for them to last forever because they were cut from their source of life, the plant. The vase of water can sustain them for a little while, but the vase of water can’t provide the nourishment the plant can. As good as they looked for that short period of time, they eventually die and the only thing to do is throw them away.

The same is true for your life as a Christian. You need to stay connect to God, who is your source of life. You might be able to fool people for a little while, but you will eventually not be able to sustain a godly life. Eventually you will dry up and stop producing fruit with your life.

The more we stay connected to Him through prayer, studying the Bible and church, the more your life will look like Him. Staying connected to the source is the only way to continue to produce fruit with your life.

Don’t struggle on your own trying to live the Christian life without staying connected to Him. You were never meant to do it on your own. He designed it so that when we stay connected to Him the fruit will happen.
