31 He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. 32 It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.” – Matthew 13:31-32
Now is the time to plant your garden if you haven’t done so already.
Every year it’s incredible to think about how when I put a seed or a small plant in the ground, it turns into something that produces large amounts of what you plant. Some tomato seeds can produce as many as 200 tomatoes. Something that starts out so small and turns into something that can provide for many is something that only God can do.
This always makes me think of the parable of the mustard seed. One of the smallest seeds gets big enough that a bird can make its nest in its branches. Again—something only God can do.
Small Beginnings, Massive Impact
The verse in Matthew compares this growth to the kingdom of heaven. Think about that for a minute:
It started out with Jesus. He chose twelve men to be His disciples, and He trusted those men to share the message with others. Now, it is spread all over the world. Every time you are discipled and then share that message with others, you are a part of what started long ago with that small group.
Once again—something only God can do.
Don’t Limit What God Can Do
God wants to do the same in your life. He wants to take your small acts of faith and use them to do great things.
When God asks you to take a small step of faith, it is only the beginning of what He wants to accomplish in and through you. If you trust Him and take that step, He will take it and turn it into something greater.
He used twelve men to start building the kingdom, and He will continue that work through you if you allow Him to. Don’t limit God with a lack of faith.
